L is for the way He looks at me.

When you're little, you believe that you've been created for some grand purpose. That you're the one who will finally set the world right. You imagine yourself saving animals and finding cures and rescuing hurting children. You use the words "When I grow up" over and over. Your plans have no limits, your confidence no end. You understand that you are special. That you have what it takes.

And then one day you reach that point where you are supposed to be grown. You enter the adult world and fake your way through the first few years. And inside your heart sinks a little lower. This is what you've been waiting for? You can't seem to find your place.

So you leave. You pick up all of your hopes and plans and find somewhere new. You make plans to go back to school. To get the right degree. Then you'll be able to do what you were made for. Whatever that is. And as your plans get bigger and bigger and your ambitions spiral out of control, you step out of it.

Greatness isn't in how qualified you are. Or how many you can save in a day. It's in a smile, a touch, an understanding ear. It's the little things that you miss in your quest for big. Taking time to see the people around you. Being bold enough to push past the surface. Transparent enough to share in struggles.

This is what you were made for. This is His great plan for you. To love. Love is what makes sense of this mess of a world. It's in His sunrises and sunsets. Love is the way that He watches you. The way the sun warms your skin on a summer day.

And when you pray for them- for those He gave you to love, His desire for us washes over you and seeps into you. And it makes you want to sing.

We are so loved. And that is what will save us. It's the grandest of plans.
