I had forgotten how music can cause your whole body to move, not just your fingers.  Had forgotten the feel of sitting down to an instrument and letting it carry you.  There is a dip and sway dance that runs through the spine curved over white keys, there are shoulders, there are tapping feet, and there is the head-- bowed, ears tilted close.

There might have been a day that was loud.  A day filled with young voices in the morning, adult voices in the afternoon, cousin voices and husband voices and this right here-- this act of sitting at a bench and dimming the lights and using the rest of your body to make a noise that is ordered and stunning and beyond words is such a gift.

I am grateful for this God who thought to give us music.
