Tis the Season

Lately I have been over indulging in Christmas. Not like me at all. But the warm fuzzy movies are so inviting and the candy is so tasty and the hot drinks are so satisfying. I even hung a few lights and put some ornaments in a bowl. Last night I caught myself looking up sugar cookie recipes and scheming about gingerbread houses. Then the snow came and I got a huge attack of the happies.

What is going on?

My kids are extra squirrely. The room is a little more messy. They growl when it's time for math. They beg extra chapters during read aloud. And talk me into paints and clay instead of worksheets and quizzes.  The end of the day comes and they hug me tight and tell me that they'll see me tomorrow. And that makes me fly straight to the moon.

There are mountains in my apartment. Three half empty suitcases that I trip over on my way to the bathroom. Boots and scarves and mail and mugs. Lately I've been living off of string cheese and cranberry spritzers. My brush has been missing for three days and I can't find one of my favorite slippers.

This morning we filled the marker board with prayer requests. And the top of the list: snow day. Please? I need a little help slowing down right now. And I do have those red snow pants that I am dying to wear.

So cross your fingers for me. And send a little love up North. I'm going to go perfect my snow dance and make some tea.
