I love old things.  I love arches and columns and bricks and pipe organs and classics and my car.

I really love hymns.  My kids and I have been rocking out to them this week and it is so great to sing along with those ancient words.

Imagine ten year olds swinging their legs, working on math, and humming to this:  Then I shall bow in humble adoration and there proclaim, my God how great Thou art.  I love it when old and new mix.

It is sunny, I have flowers on my desk, and tomorrow is the last workday of the week for me.  Life must be good.

I realized that I'm turning a leaf today while I was driving home.  Lately I've been buying all sorts of ingenious plastic containers and makeup sorters and fancy hangers.  I don't have a tidy bone in my body.  Well I didn't.  But something has happened to me.

My whole life has been lived using one laundry basket.  Now I have one for each color of clothing.  My bathroom drawers are no longer treasure hunting worthy.  They're neat and predictable and boring.

I even went through my dvd collection and made sure that the right one was inside each case.  And when I went to the store, I not only had a list, my list was based off of actual recipes.

It's a sign of the end.  That's what I told myself in the car.

Or maybe I feel so out of control that I'm reigning in the rest of myself.  Even that is predictable.  Gross.

The solution to my dire situation?

Summer.  Glorious, unhurried, unplanned, commitment free, go where the wind blows summer.

  2. Time will tell whether you have REALLY turned over a new leaf, or just peaked under it -- will those wonderful organizers still be used next week????
Summer IS delightful -- I remember well loving the freedom from the domination of the school schedule.
Have a wonderful 3 day weekend!
    Love, Mom
